Ed Coles appointed as principal for Iron Ridge Secondary Campus
Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ed Coles as principal of Iron Ridge Secondary Campus (IRSC) in Blackfalds.
IRSC is Wolf Creek’s newest school, currently under construction and is the first high school for the community of Blackfalds.
“It is exciting to be the principal of a new school, and all the opportunities and challenges that presents,” said Coles. “It’s an opportunity to work with the future staff, students and families of IRSC to build a school community. It will be an honour to see the first group of Blackfalds students learn and grow at IRSC, and ultimately cross a graduation stage in their own community.”
Coles, who has been serving as principal at Eckville Junior Senior High School since 2021, started his career in 2007 teaching English as a Second Language in South Korea. From 2009-2012 he worked as a teacher and youth apprenticeship coordinator at Mistassiniy School in Wabasca. In 2012, Coles moved to teach at Innisfail High School, and in 2016 to become assistant principal at West Central High School in Rocky Mountain House.
“Helping to establish a new school is a crucial responsibility, and we are confident that Mr. Coles’ proven leadership and experience will create a successful environment for Iron Ridge Secondary Campus,” said Sonja Dykslag, assistant superintendent of people services.
Coles holds an Honors Bachelor Degree in English (2006), and a Bachelor of Education (2007) from Lakehead University. Ed also holds a Master of Education from City University (2016).
Iron Ridge Secondary Campus will open in September 2024.
